(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Linux OS CloudLinux announced on Thursday that it has released CageFS 3, a virtualized file system for shared hosting providers that cages each customer within its own virtualized system.
According to the announcement released at Parallels Summit in Orlando, CageFS is now a part of CloudLinux OS at no extra charge. CageFS will ensure that users will not see any other users and will have no way to detect the presence of other users on the server. Users will not be able to see server configuration files like Apche config files. Despite these security measures, the user environment is fully functional and is not restricted in other ways. CageFS offers functionality to provide IRC, shell and backup hosting.
CloudLinux says CageFS provides a safer web hosting environment, and since it is provided at no extra cost, web hosts can adopt it easily without a lot of resources.
“This is all part of our mission to deliver technology specifically developed for the needs of shared hosting companies,” Igor Seletskiy, CloudLinux CEO said in a statement. “Each shared hosting site gets security on par with VPS (virtual private servers), but without all the VPS administrative overhead. that, in turn, leads to a better experience for the customers, and better margins for the hosters.”
CloudLinux OS is fully-compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS, as well as being integrated with Parallels Plesk Panel and other major control panels.
